Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. It is a derivative of early 20th century Kodokan Judo, which was itself then a recently-developed system (founded in 1882), based on multiple schools (or Ryu) of Japanese Jujutsu. It promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person using leverage and proper technique can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant using joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat an opponent.
BJJ can be trained for self defense, sport grappling tournaments (gi and no-gi) and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition. Sparring (commonly referred to as 'rolling') and live drilling play a major role in training, and a premium is placed on performance, especially in competition.

Okinawan Karate
Karate is a self defense art with a huge emphasis on discipline, focus, manners, and personal responsibility. Karate was developed on the premise of ending a fight as quickly as possible with a series of quick strikes to the right areas with full power.
Kata is a cornerstone of karate training and was passed down from father to son in order to give each generation an understanding of combat as well as self awareness/discipline. The focus was not on who could beat who in a ring, it was a journey of the self, with a focus on what kind of human being one can become.
It is a great tool for getting in shape, becoming more disciplined, and learning to defend yourself.

The Students Programs
Adults and Teens

Our Teen/Adult programs are great for people looking to learn self defense, work on their fitness, lose weight, who want a fun hobby, and even for those looking to compete in the martial arts!
Adults often push and encourage their children to do new things, to make good decisions, and to not be scared. Lead by example by signing yourself up for classes and SHOW people how to live rather than just telling them.

Kids Program

My philosophy on children is based on the concept that children are not vessels to be filled, rather they are candles to be lit. It is my job to give your child the tools necessary to build their own lives rather than to have it built for them. Respect, confidence, manners, and an ability to think on their own are characteristics I hold in extremely high regard.
In my studio children are required to address adults as Ma'am or Sir as well as utilizing basic principles of manners such as please, thank you, and you're welcome. This is not a new concept in the world we live in but has been lost nearly completely in the school systems and homes.
One of the most important things for the child is that they enjoy themselves. The discipline they receive here will be masked in a series of drills, games, and a general atmosphere of fun. Coupling this with the sense of personal accomplishment each child receives while they improve on their skills can lead to a very confident, respectful, disciplined, and most importantly happy child.
